Arthur is the Managing Director of Arthur, Darrell & Jing LLC and heads its Dispute Resolution department. He has been an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore since 2007.

He came to law from chemical engineering, and started out in patent litigation for the straightforward reason that he could read the science without needing it explained. That grounding still shapes the work. His practice now covers corporate and commercial disputes, construction, commodities, intellectual property and employment matters, in the courts and in arbitration, and much of it involves the kind of technical evidence that a case can turn on.

Arthur’s view is that litigation is the last resort rather than the first, and he says so early even when it is not what a client wants to hear. He also does a good deal of work before anything goes wrong, reading a client’s contracts and workflows the way an opposing counsel eventually will, and closing the gaps while they are still cheap to close. Where that is done alongside the firm’s corporate team, the client ends up with an arrangement that is commercially workable and holds up when it is tested. If a dispute comes anyway, they are the one holding the stronger hand. Most of his matters settle, which he regards as the point rather than a consolation.

He has taught advocacy since 2011 and now runs a couple of the Law Society’s other training programmes as well.

Outside the Office

Arthur trains most days and climbed Mount Fuji in August 2026. He reached the summit in time to photograph a double solar halo, then went home and worked out the odds of seeing one.
