Muhanesh has been an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore since 2024. His work is mainly in corporate and commercial disputes, alongside insolvency and restructuring, construction and employment matters.

He acts largely for individuals and smaller businesses, for whom a dispute is rarely just a legal problem. It is usually also a cash flow problem, a relationship that has broken down, or a decision someone is dreading having to make.

His approach is to listen first and analyse second. Before reaching for the legal arguments he wants to know what the client is actually trying to achieve, what the commercial realities are, and what they are realistically prepared to do. The best legal answer, as he puts it, is not always the most useful one. That takes longer at the start and saves time later.

Experience

• Acted in a group of four related suits between company groups running across all three levels of the Singapore courts, raising claims in tort, breach of contract, defamation and intellectual property
• Opposed a moratorium application brought under the Insolvency, Restructuring and Dissolution Act 2018, working alongside foreign counsel for creditors of an overseas debtor company
• Acted on a successful application to the Appellate Division of the High Court for permission to appeal, on whether ad hoc fiduciary duties can arise despite a contractual provision to the contrary
• Advised on a dispute over competing nominations for a liquidator in a creditors’ voluntary winding up, and on resisting a winding-up application following a statutory demand
• Defended an investment-related claim in dishonest assistance and misrepresentation, including two appeals to the Appellate Division of the High Court
• Acted in a dispute arising from a shipbuilding contract, and in employment disputes for both employer and employee
• Prepared mediation case statements and settlement documentation in commercial and employment matters

Outside the Office

Muhanesh plays football. At university he was in a small club that wrote stand-up material and was working towards a show, which COVID shut down before anyone reached a stage. He maintains the jokes were fine and the timing was the problem.
